I think of it as a privilege and an honor to be able to capture images of wolves in the wild. This is beautiful!

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in a wildlife park in the southern part of Germany
Time
I remember quite well, that it was already quite cold in the very end of October last year. So we stood there since early morning and it took till later in the afternoon, to get that perspective right.
Lighting
As it was the first time for me, visiting that spot, but it was pretty soon clear, that we had to wait until afternoon, to get that warming light from the right side
Equipment
I used a Canon 1DX with a 400mm 2.8 prime lens on a tripod, no flash or anything else
Inspiration
I observed the wolves for quite a while and from time to time one wolf of the wolf pack, started his "Patrol Gang"
Editing
This image was processed 2 times with Camera Raw, one for the light, one for the shadows and than finalized in Lightroom
In my camera bag
I normally have two bodies with me, 1x Canon 1DX and 7D as well as a 400mm 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 plus 2 teleconverter (1.4, 2.0)
Feedback
As all of my pictures are taken in Zoos or wildlife parks, I try to avoid any perspective with distracting elements, like fences, buildings etc.. Secondly I am looking for the best time and light of the day, of course limited by the opening hours :-). Once I found the perfect location for a scene, that I have in mind, I am waiting for something to happen. If this is not the case, I will get no photo at all. But if the animals are crossing the scene, I am looking for some light reflects in their eyes or something else interesting, that is what I am after. So I am spending quite some time to find the best locations for different animals and to wait for something to happen once I found a good location.
