I've always been fascinated by the history of Franco-American Relations. So, of course, when I learned that a French Frigate was en route to Yorktown, I made certain that I would be there. At 4AM that morning, it was just me, the harbormaster, and a few local cops discussing the day's events over coffee before I staked out my spot at the end of the pier.

Seen here, the French ship L'Hermione (replica) glides out of the fog on her early-morning transit into Yorktown, Virginia last year. The original L'Hermione carried General Lafayette to Boston, where he informed General Washington that he'd secured 5500 French soldiers and five additional French frigates to support the revolution. This reinforcement gave Washington, supported by Rochambeau, the resources required to coordinate a siege of Yorktown Harbor, forcing British General Cornwallis to surrender.
