Major General Henry Knox lived in Thomaston, Maine. He was a military officer of the Continental Army, best known for his continuous military service as commander of the Continental Army Artillery under General Washington for the full duration of the American Revolution. He served as the first United States Secretary of War from 1789 to 1794. Fort Knox was named after him.
