(Pieris rapae) A small strong-flying butterfly, common and widespread throughout Britain and Ireland. It has brilliant white wings, with small black tips to the forewings and one or two wing spots. The undersides are a creamy white. Along with the Large White it is also known as the "Cabbage White" for the damage done to those vegetables, but it does significantly less damage than the Large White.
Interestingly this picture was taken using a 1995 Canon EF 28-80mm f3.5-5.6 Ultrasonic with a 58mm-55mm step down ring to an even older Hoya +4 Close-up Filter.
