Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Magnolia Park, in my Hometown of St.Martinville, Louisiana. The park is located along the Bayou Teche and is adjacent to the Historic Longfellow-Evangeline State Commemorative site. Magnolia Park is filled with beautiful Magnolias, Live Oaks, Cypress trees, and Pecan trees, and a variety of wildlife call it home :)

Time

I usually get to Magnolia Park right at Sunrise and sit in my favorite spot, beneath several huge live oaks and pecan trees. One popular tree is home to Northern Flickers, Red-Headed Woodpeckers, and squirrels.

Lighting

Early Morning light is important, as wildlife is very active then.

Equipment

I take most of my photos from inside my car. I use a car window camera mount and a Point & Shoot, Canon Powershot sx 60 or 70.

Inspiration

I was photographing a family of Red-headed Woodpeckers when this little squirrel got my attention. It seemed as if he was actually posing for me--he stayed in this position for a while. :)

Editing

I cropped a little of the background out.

In my camera bag

Inside my camera bag is my Canon Powershot sx 70 / Car window Camera Mount / several batteries / extra memory cards / Lens cloth / Anti-fog wipes / Eyeglasses / Mosquito spray / and Pepper spray (I am often alone in very isolated areas)

Feedback

Lighting, timing, and Patience are the most important!!!
