Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photo of the Yarra river which flows through the city of Melbourne, Australia. I was standing on the Swanston Street bridge. On the left is the restaraunt, entertainment district of Southbank, and on the right is the Flinders Street railway station.

Time

The photo was taken just after sunset at three minutes to six on the 18th of July, 2015.

Lighting

There is no special lighting equipment used. The evening was after a clear, mild mid-winter day.

Equipment

It was taken with my Samsung camera.

Inspiration

I rarely go into the city of Melbourne, and this is one of my favourite vistas. It is next to the Arts Centre.

Editing

I tend not to do any post-processing, as I do not have a Lightroom subscription and the stand-alone software I did use at the time crashed the computer I had at the time.

In my camera bag

These days I have upgraded as my interest has increased. I own a Canon EOS 1100 and a couple of years ago I added a Canon EOS 6D. This latter is the camera I tend to have with me most of the time. I usual use the Tamron 24 - 70mm lens, but also carry a Sigma 70 - 200mm lens. When I go into the bush to take photos of birds and wild-life I use the Sigma 150 - 500mm lens.

Feedback

Pictures of the city are best done when the lights are on. Just after sunset is a good time because the pollution and atmosphere create spectacular background colours.
