This image features my best friend, Lexxie. She's an 11 year old Golden Retriever and extremely lazy, having been shot one evening in my lounge this pretty much reflects the fatigue yet adorable expression she always seems to have.Time
A chilly evening, around 9pm maybe? I remember we had the heating on and as soon as I laid a blanket on the floor my pooch came to join me.Lighting
This was taken using only artificial lighting from my living room lamps, it was dark outside so no natural lighting is reflected here and if in colour the image would likely have been very yellow toned.Equipment
I shot this using a canon 1100d with a standard 18-55 kit lens. Not a very professional setup but this was one of the first images I shot with a DSLR and came out better than anticipatedInspiration
As previously mentioned it was a chilly evening, planning to watch a movie, and the family were all taking up the sofas so I usually kip on the floor. Having laid out a blanket and about to start the film my dog plonked herself next to me and that's when I captured this adorable still of her dopey face. Nothing beats a cuddle with my pup.Editing
I mainly just enhance the exposure of my images to create a sharper contrast and often I'll adjust the saturation if shooting indoors since my lights tend to give off a yellowish hue. In this instance I shot the image in monochrome settings so the only post processing that occurred was a sharper touch up and slight exposure tweak. In my camera bag
I mainly shoot indoor gigs and live shows where I always carry my canon 700d paired with a nifty 50mm f1.8 STM and sometimes I'll bring a kit lens in case I need wider shots. i can't afford any other lenses just yet whilst living on a student budget so until I save up for an upgrade that's all I have!Feedback
When shooting animals always try to catch them candid and grab their attention right at the last second. My pooch is extremely camera shy but all it takes is perfect timing and a 'biscuit' to grab her attention for the split second that I need it. Also giving your pets lots of cuddles before a shoot usually keeps them relaxed when hearing the shutter snap, pair this with an aperture that will give you a shallow depth of field and you're good to go
