This is one of my most favourite and most popular images shot in beautiful Lauterbrunnen earlier this year. This small village in the heart of Switzerland attracts so many tourists every year. In the background on the right hand side you can see the very famous „Staubbachfall“ waterfall which looks even more impressive if it runs more water. in 1779 even Goethe travelled here and got inspired by this waterfall! The place is surrounded by the Alps, some of the mountains are more than 4000m high. If you are interested how I created this shot, check out my Facebook page for a description on camera settings as well as post processing!

Beautiful shot, excellent work! I was in Lauterbrunnen this past fall ... what an absolutely beautiful place. You captured it perfectly, this really does the feeling of the place justice.

Location
The photo was taken at a small village in Switzerland called "Lauterbrunnen" Its located in a valleyTime
I set the camera to continuous shooting mode to not miss the perfect time when the milky way is exactly positioned in the valley. While the camera was running I was working in the car which was parked nearby. Suddenly I felt like taking a break and step out of the car to enjoy the nightsky. Exactly in that moment a huge falling star passed by and I was so stoked to witness this amazing spectacle. Later I chose exactly that shot with the falling star which you can see here and I was very happy that I saw it in real AND even managed to capture it with my camera!Lighting
To get a high dynamic range with lots of details I blended images shot at various times of the day. Pick the best lightning from blue gour and combine it with the perfect milky way exposure from nightEquipment

As the waterfall on the right hand side of the image was illuminated it was impossible to get a clean shot of the stars. So I waited for several hours for the illumination to turn off. To give the image a little more impact I blended the illuminated part in from a shot which was captured during late blue hour where the mix with the ambient light was perfectly balancedEditing
This a vertorama composed of 3 horizontal images shot with a tilt shift lens. Because the lens has almost no distortion at all it was very easy to stitch the shots together manually. In my camera bag

Use a very stable tripod for easy blending. Blend images shot at times not too far from each other. For example blend a night shot with a mid day shot is much more difficult than blending a night shot with a late blue hour shot Be parient and be ready if the milky way is in its position (find a good angle and framing before its too dark) Practice practice practice
