Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Brooke Shaden's Promoting Passion Convention 2016 that was held at Glen Eyrie near Colorado Springs. The grounds are beautiful here as well as the castle where much of the conference was held. I was positioned up on a wall of the the castle and looking down on the model lying in the grass.

Time

Since it was afternoon on a bright and sunny day the shade worked well to soften the light.

Lighting

Natural light.

Equipment

Canon 7D camera with an 18-55 lens iso 200, 6.3 1/200

Inspiration

We were given the opportunity to photograph models during workshops with some of the speakers. This happened to be one I did during Lindsay Adler's workshop time and Lindsay had brought a few dresses with her from New York where she had rented them So lucky to have gotten to go to this conference. There was so much inspiration all around us. The dress and the model herself provided inspiration just in looking at her in this dress. She is also a dancer, so she is very sensitive to placement of her arms and legs. Very graceful. The dress looks so pretty falling around her and the dark grass provided nice contrast.

Editing

I processed this image in OnOne Camera Raw which allowed me to use the tilt shift effect which adds to the romantic/fantasy look of the shot

In my camera bag

I usually take two cameras with two choices of lenses so I don't have to take time to be switching lenses while shooting. I almost always have my 18-55 and also my 85-250 so I can get in tighter and also be further away if I need to be.

Feedback

Carefully choose a dress that works well with the model's look. Simple backgrounds that will show off the beauty of your model and also her dress.
