Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken by the river Thames near Mapledurham, this part of the river Thames is Mapledurham reach

Time

This was taken about 8 am beginning of January, as you can see it was frosty with the mist on the river, I had walked past this spot following the Thames path and had turned to go back home.

Lighting

I saw the sun rising through the willow trees, that's when I saw the shot I walked around a bit to find the best spot to set up my tripod, I decided to have the camera low down, the camera was about 300 millimetres high. This area is only about 20 minutes walk from my home, and I love to capture the sunrise and mist, and having the sun to backlight the mist.

Equipment

This shot was taken with my old Fuji S3 and Sigma 17 - 70 F2.8 lens mounted on my Manfrotto tripod. I don't use flash or any filters.

Inspiration

The light through the mist and willow trees, I had been out for a couple of hours walking along the Thames path and had decided to turn back to go home, and I actually walked past this spot to the gate thinking about the light and decided to turn back walking back about 20 metres or so and looked at various places to set up my tripod, deciding to get as close as I could to the river bank and low to catch the sun through the willow trees.

Editing

I do all my own post-processing I always shoot in RAW and I use Photoshop CC, My processing is minimal I adjust Contrast, highlight, Whites and a little clarity

In my camera bag

I don't carry too much with me, camera my main lens Sigma 17- 70 zoom lens hood and I take a wide-angle lens Sigma 10-20 millimetre Lense cleaning cloth Tripod I use a Gitzo ball head on my tripod. and ND filters for long exposure, and that's it

Feedback

Must use a tripod and try setting tripod at different heights this shot camera was about 300 millimetres high, and I use hyperfocal focusing to get foreground to distance in focus. and take the time to look.
