Behind The Lens

Location

I was walking my dog at the local woodlot when a friend's puppy started to plow through the snow towards us. I could barely grab my cell phone in time to snap this shot before he had run past me. The fresh snow makes a cloud around him mid-flight and you can see the snow clinging to his frosted beard. This is a shot that I could never 'set up' and repeat. So, I will have to live with the slight unfocus and lack of detail. In a sense, it adds to the snowmist effect.

Time

A sunny first winter snowfall with the low morning sun catching the dog's face.

Lighting

Being sunny and clear helped get the best image capable from a cell phone lens. As well, shooting something fairly close did not hurt. But I could never blow up this photo, sadly.

Equipment

A Samsung s9 cell phone.

Inspiration

I love how rough coated dogs turn into snowballs when the snow sticks to their fur.

Editing

Mostly, I just cropped and increased contrast on this photo.

In my camera bag

If I am purposely heading on a photo trip I have two cameras. A Canon Rebel xTi from way, way, back to the first digital cameras. And now a smaller Nikon Coolpix which I use for it's zoom lens option.

Feedback

You know that moment when you say in your head....that would make a great picture....but then you hesitate and the shot it lost. And you never go back to that place or situation to grab the photo again. Just start saying instead...that would make a great shot WHILE you are reaching for any camera at hand. And take the shot. Even if you have to make your friends, family, and pets wait for you to grab it.
