Behind The Lens

Location

I was lucky enough to be visiting Chateaux Bonaguiil in South West France, The mantis shot was taken in the vegetable garden, initially the mantis flew onto my husbands backpack but then settled within the greenery so it was a lucky shot!

Time

From memory it was early afternoon.

Lighting

There was no fancy lighting used, just the beautiful French sunshine.

Equipment

I carry a Fujifilm bridge camera that I’ve had for about 6 years, it goes everywhere with me.

Inspiration

Shear excitement at seeing a mantis for the first time. It was such a beautiful vivid green and when it landed on the vegetation it was too perfect to miss.

Editing

The image is exactly as it was taken on the day.

In my camera bag

I purely carry around my trusty old Fuji and I’ve recently bought a monopod (and lots of spare rechargeable) batteries.

Feedback

Just keep looking for the opportunities. I’m an amateur photographer so I have no specialist knowledge or equipment but if you keep your gear with you and your eyes peeled the world can produce some of the most amazing chances to capture something special.
