Location
The photo was taken from a man made beach (Pandanus Beach) along the Wynnum foreshore south of Brisbane on Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia.Time
I remember waking around 2 am unable to sleep and started going through some of my photos and decided on going out and doing some sunrise shots close to home, well 30 to 40 minutes’ drive. On the way it started to rain, and had thoughts of going back home and curling up in bed. I am glad I persevered, as the rain stopped, when I arrived all the trees were dripping and in the light to the east I could see lightning and the storm beginning to break up. I took some shots of the Pool and the lighting around it and the steps waiting for the sun rise. The photo was taken Saturday, 4 March 2017 5:43 AM. It was one morning worth missing a sleep in. As I also managed to photograph the Queens Elizabeth 11 as she steamed into Brisbane as well.Lighting
What I saw, with the sun rise and how I perceived, how this image should look, I wanted it to look dark and foreboding and yet welcoming as well. The storm had lifted and calm was on the way. The sun was rising and the fingers of Rays were pushing the dark storm clouds away. People were emerging from out under the shelter on the jetty to head back to safety.Equipment
Photo was taken with an Olympus Omd Em-5 with a kit lens, 14-42 mm set at 31 mm f8 and set on live timeInspiration
I have seen quite a few shots from the Wynnum foreshore over the time in Magazines and on web sites. I have always admired these photos and wanted to try and recreate or produce shots of my own. On the spur of the moment I believe I captured what I set out to Achieve and from a different perspective.Editing
To achieve the dark and foreboding look with a hint of Golden sunrise I processed the image through, Google Nik.In my camera bag
I have a small back pack which consists of M.Zuiko 14-42mm, 45mm, 60mm Macro, 40-150mm and 75-300mm. Tripod, filter, Cable release, interval timer. A Flash that is rarely used. I have a smaller bag which I use just for local shots and usually take 1 to 3 lenses depending on where I am going.Feedback
Be spontaneous, be prepared for anything. The best laid plans can go wrong and the spur of the moment idea may reap rewards. Enjoy the moment, experience what is happening and try to capture what you feel and see. Feel and see the diversity of colours, shapes, sounds and smells. Enjoy yourself and share your memories with your photos.
