When I found out that my grandma had booked a cruise for all of us to travel to Alaska I really didn't know what to expect. I knew it would be an incredible experience for a number of reasons, but I didn't expect that the landscapes themselves would have such a profound impact on me. It really was a life changing experience and I'm so glad that I got to experience it with my very patient wife, my parents, my grandma and my great aunt.
This image wouldn't have been possible with my old camera setup due to AF limitations and extreme shutter shock. I was on top of the boat deck shooting for almost three hours straight with the light constantly changing and incredible scenery coming at me from all directions. To say that it was challenging was an understatement. It really did push my skills and the X-T2 to the breaking point. The camera performed like a champ, with only a small handful of mis-focused shots (out of some 1500 images).
Cruising through the straights allows you to obtain some vantage points that are virtually impossible to see unless you travel by air, or in my case boat. It really was just mind blowing just how gorgeous, rugged and dynamic the Alaskan landscapes were. I'll definitely never forget this trip.
