'Space' is relative you know. Especially underwater microscopic space. The time it would take the slowest, smallest bacteria to travel across this image from top to bottom or side to side is kind of like us going the next nearest star. The nearest star is our own sun so we don't want to there. It will be hot and we already know what is there. So, we want to visit Barnard's star which is 4.5 light years away.

It may be that bacteria are attempting to develop warp drive. That is the real reason they call some of them 'Super Bugs".
