Location
This shot was taken at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare and it was the first time shooting at this location.Time
The time of day was mid afternoon in the mid summer of 2017.Lighting
The lighting was natural light from the sun which was slightly diffused from the cloud.Equipment
The shot was taken with a Nikon D3300 and the Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens which I find is an underrated lens, I also used a Neewer CPL filter and the shot was handheld.Inspiration
I'm always looking for new locations to shoot my landscapes and by chance I stumbled upon this location and saw how the far hillside reflected in the lake and the opportunity to capture the reflection.Editing
This was a straight forward process done in lightroom by adjusting the highlights and shadows to give a balance between the sky and lake and used the brush tool to gain more clarity in the water reflection. In my camera bag
I normally have a Nikon D3300, Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens, Nikkor 18-105mm lens, various deffusers for the pop-up flash, remote shutter release and a selection of filters.Feedback
On arriving at the location I didn't think I was going to get this shot as there was a lot of cloud in the sky so color and lighting was poor. So I decided to sit and wait to see if the cloud would clear enough to capture the reflection in the water and lucky enough the sky suddenly cleared revealing all the colors and giving a solid reflection. When shooting shots like this its always best to have a circular polarizing filter as this will take away the reflected light from the waters surface, also think about composition as this will lead the viewer through the photo and last but not least patience as arriving on location might not give you ideal conditions so waiting for a bit sometimes will give you that opportunity.
