"White-naped crane-Elegant and Endangered" (Range: China, Japan, Korea, Russia). Named for the white at the back of their necks, these large birds-reaching over 3 feet in height-are threatened by habitat loss. Most significantly, the birds' wetland breeding grounds are being appropriated for agricultural use. Only around 6,500 remain in the wild. June 2017 at Bronx Zoo.
