The photo was taken at the pond nearby "Dancing Crane Cafe" in Bronx Zoo, USA.Time
After visiting the "Congo Gorilla Forest", I walked around the pond where a lot of flamingos are standing, dancing and sitting on the rocks. All of sudden, I saw the 2 flamingos are eating in the water at the same place and it looked like symmetric and artistic. I zoomed in and pressed the shutter button. It was around 1:00PM. I was very lucky to get this shot.Lighting
I always use the natural light for animal portrait and flower photo. Sunlight was a little harsh, and face was a little dark. So, I raised up the ISO to 250 and used f/5.6 aperture.Equipment
I used Sony ILCA-77M2 (APS-C) camera with Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G lens - 300mm, f/5.6, 1/640 sec, ISO 250. No flash and hand held.Inspiration
This scene was so artistic (perfect shape of 2 flexible flamingos in one piece) and it inspired me. There's no other option than take a photo. I thought this was the only chance, so I clicked.Editing
Water in the pond was not clean, so I darkened the image to hide the obstacles. Image was cropped to concentrate for the beautiful shape of the flamingos. I lightened the body of flamingos using brush tool in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
2 cameras - one full frame (Sony SLT-A99V) and one APS-C (Sony ILCA-77M2) with Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM, Minolta 80-200mm F2.8, Minolta 28-70mm F2.8 and Minolta 100mm F2.8 macro lenses. I'll carry extra butteries, extra memory cards, blower/brush and lens cleaners.Feedback
Timing is most important to take the animal photos. Never hesitate or you will regret. To get a perfect timing photo, I sometimes wait for more than 20 minutes holding my camera and shoot the best image. Walk around the site to get the best angle, indoor or outdoor.
