Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in May 2017 at Seaport Village, San Diego.

Time

This is in the list of my all time favorite images. It was our first trip to San Diego and we were exploring the area by walking. We were here during the day time as well and by looking at the water inlet I decided to do a night shot. We returned well after sunset and this was taken around 7:45 PM.

Lighting

There was a heavy cloud cover and also some mist in the air, which was already adding some drama to the composition. The water, although not perfectly still, was decent enough to offer a good reflection of the towers. I set my tripod and took 2 long exposure shots and was really happy with the outcome.

Equipment

Camera: Pentax K-1 Lens: HD PENTAX-D FA 15-30mm F2.8 ED SDM WR Tripod: Dolica (don't remember the model, do not have it an more) Focal Length: 15.0 mm Aperture: f/20 Shutter: 13s ISO: 800

Inspiration

Like I've mentioned above, I wanted to take this shot at night when I visited during the day time. I've always loved reflections in the water and with so many elements - the towers, variety of boats and yachts, a marketplace - I just knew I had to take this shot and I'm so glad I did.

Editing

This involved very little post processing. Just some minor touches for white balance and bringing out the shadows.

In my camera bag

When I'm out traveling, the Pentax 15-30mm F/2.8 is a must-have for me. I use it for most of my landscape images. But I also take family and closeup shots and some portraits if I find a really nice setting and have the following: Pentax 43mm F/1.9 Pentax 50mm F/1.4 Pentax 77mm F/1.8 Pentax 70-200 F/2.8

Feedback

I love what I do and I do what I love. I take lots of pictures everywhere I go, which helps me get into the zone and look at things, objects, people, nature with a different perspective and I believe all that has really helped me grow over the years. So just go out and shoot and that will help you find your style.
