This photo was taken during a photographic workshop that I attended in Dubai. My main reason for attending this workshop was to understand how to work with models and lighting, in the studio and with natural light.Time
Since this was an indoor shot, the time of day doesn't really apply, but I do remember it was the first shoot of the morning, requiring lots of coffee.Lighting
The lighting setup was simple.A single light source/setup used from the model's right-hand side. The lighting was diffused by a 5 foot Profoto Octabox. On the left-hand side of the model was a white v-flat to reflect/bounce light back towards the model.Equipment
I shot at the time using a Nikon D810 and 85mm f/1.4 Nikon prime lens. This was shot handheld and using the studio lighting mentioned above.Inspiration
The model was great, she was really experienced and understood the concept I was looking for, projecting that emotion from her sole through her eyes. Capturing this preciously and precisely.Editing
My post processing was kept to a minimum, converting this to my preferred Black & White format and then only using dodge/burn to clean up some skin blemishes. It's remains a natural look overall, even her hair, plenty of strays that could have been removed. In my camera bag
This has changed since this image was taken. Now I'm working with the Sony A7rii and the Hasselblad H6D-50c medium format. I'm way preferring the Hasselblad for my studio work and the Sony for outdoor. As technology progresses this may change once again.Feedback
Concentrate and setup the lighting correctly. Keep talking to the model during this process, to assure her what you are doing. Stop, relax and breath.
