Location
This is the shot taken from Pouakai Circut Crossing in Egmont National Park, New Plymouth, New Zealand. It was a 2.5 hrs walk across the Mangorei Track to Pouakai Hut, in Egmont National Park and further 20 mins walk we reached a majestic location of ultimate natural beauty. It was not what we have hoped for as the clouds from nowhere completely wiped out the head of Mt Taranaki for sometime but great to find such ideal conditions later in the day.Time
This shot was taken around mid-day in February.Lighting
Natural light is an ideal source of a Landscape shot but cloudy ambiance acts as a natural filter of light. Though the shot was taken at mid day still due to the thick clouds it was possible to avoid the bright sunlight which made this shot a near perfect one.Equipment
I used the Camera: Canon EOS 6D and my multipurpose Lens EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. I used a Polarization filter and a ND8 filter. Manfrotto ball head Tripod was used to get the perfect landscape shot.Inspiration
Capturing the beauty of the Mount Taranaki was always being in my bucket list because its one of the iconic places of the North Island plus this place had a significance. Some shots from the movie 'The Last Samurai' was taken with the Mt Taranaki at the backdrop. So, the opportunity to explore the Pouakai Circuit trails in Egmont National Park gave me precious memories. The reflection of the Mount in the tiny mirror lake eased off the tiredness of the hectic 3 hrs hike.Editing
I used few post processing techniques; blending the multiple exposed shots, merging the shots for the pano effect, some sharpening and color correction. All has been performed in my CS6 tool.In my camera bag
I have some must to carry gears and some nice to have gears. The must to carry gears have added over the years and now a days the list stands as, Camera body off-course, EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Samyang 14mm F2.8 lens, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, a set of 77mm Polarization, ND8, ND1000 filters, shutter release, extra memory card, extra battery pack and yes a small set of cleaning kit, like the Blower, and some clean wipes. I also carry a led torch and some clean cloth which comes handy at night shoots. I also pack my tripod as a must to carry gear. Nice to have gears include Canon 1.4mm 50mm lens, Tamron 70 - 200 mm F2.8 lens and few more filters.Feedback
Patience is the key. Sometimes the situation/condition may not seen ideal but still its never disappointing to venture and spent some time with the lens, believe me wonders happen at unexpected moments. The golden hour moments are a precious time and the most productive time for a photographer but it is always good to plan couple of hours before the sunrise and sunset to capture the transition colors. Good luck and practice, practice, practice ....
