Location
As an amateur photographer in a small Michigan city that is by the water, there are some weather conditions that I know will net stunning photo results without a lot of special effects. Winter turns the waters into a wonderland of all things icy. This was taken from a parking lot that looks out over a bay.Time
This was actually at the end of a day of shooting photos of ice jams and wildlife, and we realized that it was going to be one of those spectacular sunsets, so we decided to drive to one of my favorite spots to take pictures of the "sunset on ice". Mother Nature did not disappoint on this one. I took this same photo about fifty times at least with each new shot being a brilliant capture of colors painted on the sky, and then skidding across the ice into the horizon.Lighting
The early evening sunlight beaming through the window, while back-lighting the house to show only it's silhouette and that of the tree jutting out onto the icy bay.Equipment
I actually used my backup "little red" camera, a Kodak Pixpro AZ421 that was my only camera for quite a while. I got so used to working with it that it became a lot like a favorite paintbrush that only the artist that uses it understands and appreciates. There are times that while I am unsure of how my Cannon will respond; I know exactly how the Kodak will. I also used an inexpensive telescoping tripod, which is quite helpful when the Winter wind is whipping around by the water.Inspiration
The Winter water/landscape is always inspiring. Add sunlight, and it lends it's own perspective, making everyday landmarks look otherworldly.Editing

My Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, a stock EFS 18-35mm lens and a Cannon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6, "Little Red" Kodak Pixpro AZ421, and lens cleaning equipment.Feedback
