Hiking the Alum Cave Trail to Mt LeContes summit was a greatly rewarding hike. The elevation change and the scenery and landscape variance was so intriguing. From the trail head the temperature reading was 40 degrees. The lodge at the top said 19. The summit could have been colder as it is open to the west and that's where the wind was coming in from. But the other photographer hiking with me noticed this single pine. Half covered in hair frost, and standing alone against the mountain of tree in the background. We both took photos of this beautiful composition. I'll admit Alum Cave Trail is beautiful, but until you've seen it covered in ice and snow... wow.
