Location
Taken at Lake Macquarie, NSW, Australia.Time
It was taken around 7am, on a cool autumn morning - the light over the water was stunning and the water was freezing but there is no better way to wake up. Was out for a morning walk and enjoying the scenery by doing what we all do and taking a few snaps. From there I thought ‘why not’ - I didn’t have a bathing suit with me, so took the warm layers of clothing off and jumped right in.Lighting
It was past sunrise but the sky and clouds were still giving off pink hues that draw my eyes upwards and the water was almost still, creating a perfect reflection of the endless sky above, drawing me into the water to be a part of it. Days that start or end like this evoke emotion in me, make me question what is above us in the endless sky, extending the dream state from the slumber of the night before or what might waiting for me my dreams that night.Equipment
I believe this was shot on my old Canon 300D, either with the kit lens or a 50mm. A rock by the lake edge was used for a tripod hence the horizon line with self timer and multi shot.Inspiration
It was such a beautiful morning - I like capturing life as I see it regardless of the setting. This particular day I wanted to be a part of the beauty, the water was drawing me in to immerse myself in the world. Why not capture the moment?Editing
Because I like capturing life as I see it, I don’t often process images too much. Often just adjusting shadows/highlights to bring out the details and draw attention to the important areas (to me). Taken back in 2017, I’m honestly not so sure of my process exactly but I know it wasn’t much.In my camera bag
I’ve always, always got my 50mm 1.8 with me, no matter the subject or location. Always have a back up battery, spare card and obviously my camera body - the model changes often.Feedback
If you are loving what you see, if you’re eye is drawn to something capture it. You never know what it could turn into or inspire within in you.
