Cheonggyecheon. An inspiring urban renewal project in the heart of Seoul. In 2003 a project to remove the elecated highway and restore the stream was initiated. Due to years of neglect the stream was almost completely dry, which meant that water had to be pumped from the Han River (120,000 tons daily). Since it's restoration it has had major positive effects in both environmental and cultural ways. Not only it has provided a serene space in the middle of the city, but it has boosted the local biodiversity and reduced the small particle air pollution by more than 30%.
