Location
This image was taken from the viewpoint at Pier 2, Brooklyn Bridge Park, NY, NY. This was a trip gifted to me for my 50th birthday from my wife. Travelling from London to NY with my son-in-law specifically for me to just take photos.Time
Just after blue hour, which was not my intention. Due to unforeseen traffic and roadworks, I had missed the sunset and blue hour. This did not put me off, as the view is fantastic.Lighting
Catching the 'golden hour' or 'blue hour' was the plan, however due to unforeseen traffic issues I had to change plans on the fly. So I guess the lesson is to try and adapt to the situation.Equipment
I used my trusty Nikon D7000 with my 18-200 f3.5-5.6 on my Manfrotto travel tripod. I'd forgotten my remote so I had to use the timer function.Inspiration
The view is an iconic one, not so original a view, but I wanted to try and get a look that I had not seen before. There have been so many images of New York, I'd be hard-pressed to get one not already seen, so my idea was to try and capture it looking different to what most have already taken.Editing
I've done some exposure adjustments. In my camera bag
At the time, my 18-200 was my everyday lens. I felt it was the lens that would allow me to always get the shot. My D7000 was my main body which was attached. I'd also have a 10-20 Sigma lens for anything wider. Must not forget the nifty fifty 1.8D which is a much-underestimated lens.Feedback
Try to get to your location early, and plan to stay after the time you've planned on. Always shoot past when you think you're done. Don't forget gloves and correct clothing for the time of year.
