Location
This image was taken in St. Louis in a private home that a group of photographers rented for the day. We were in St. Louis for Shutterfest a few years ago and had contacted one another through the FB page and each put in cash for the house rental and the modeling fees. Abbi is a true pro at both modeling and make-up and is a true pleasure with which to work. She is based in St. Louis if you wish to work with her.Time
This shot was taken indoors in one of several bedrooms. The models were assigned a room, and the photographers took turns rotating from room to room for a set period of time. Lighting was also rented and provided as most of us were from out of town and didn't have much more than a speedlight or two.Lighting
Wish I could say that the sun shown through sheer curtains while the wind blew through the open window, but this was a rainy, cold day and the light was a strobe with softbox.Equipment
I used by trusty Canon 7D with my favorite lens - a 24-105mm canon zoom with a trigger for the strobe. I shot Abbi on the red chair that she's on in this image as well as by the window (with sheer curtains) and the bed itself as a boudoir shoot.Inspiration
Abbi is just a beautiful subject and model and it was a pleasure to work with her at that time.Editing
No real post-processing other than a little touch-up in LR. Abbi is really that good!In my camera bag
I have 3 levels of equipment depending upon where and what I'm shooting. In town, I will frequently use my bug-out bag from Sal Cincotta which is terrific bag, enabling me to carry my Canon 5d Mklll, the 24-105mm zoom, a platypod base with ball head to act as an impromptu tripod some Yongnuo triggers and 2 flashpoint speedlights. The "basement" storage compartment in the bag allows me to carry some gels, bungee cords, extra battery, etc. and I'm off. When I travel, I'll use a Manfrotto Pro Light rolling case in which I'l also care my Tamron 2.8 70-200 zoom and my Sigma 10-20mm zoom. It rolls easily through airports yet is small enough to place in overhead compartments as my carryon.Feedback
When going to a big conference light Shutterfest, get on the FB page and friend as many photographers as possible. Some will be local and know hidden gems to photograph, others will have gone to the same place for several years in a row and will know who is setting up after-hour shoots, whether at the conference hotel or a short UBER ride to a great building. At this conference I also hooked up with a group that set up a sunrise shoot on top of a parking garage overlooking the Arch with another terrific model. I usually carry an extra light stand and triggers to help other photographers, too.
