Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while visiting my grandmother a few years back. She had this field of bluebonnets growing out behind her house and I just couldn't resist on taking some pics.

Time

This picture was taken in the afternoon during a partly cloudy day that was just one of those beautiful Texas summer days.

Lighting

At this point I was still in the beginner stages of photography so I was letting my camera do all the work. It was just one of those moments that the outside lighting was perfect.

Equipment

The only equipment I used was my Canon Rebel T1i. I only had the one lens... 18 - 55 mm kit lens that came with the camera.

Inspiration

I am a Texas girl at heart having grown up pretty much dead center of the state. After graduating from high school, I had moved to Louisiana and when I was able to visit my family, I enjoyed the beauty that the Texas Blue bonnet shared in the spring/ summer months.

Editing

I did very light post-processing. Up until recently I used the program Photoscape for most of my editing. It is user friendly and free!

In my camera bag

Normally, my camera of course, filters, 55-250 zoom, multiple tripods. Now, still multiple tripods, action cameras, filters, two telephoto lenses, have added a drone... but it doesn't carry my camera (that is coming though), SD cards, adapters for a tablet.... And I think that is it.

Feedback

Just go with what feels natural. Spanky wasn't given any commands.... he liked to be in front of the camera. He was just following me around while I absorbed all that I could from that luscious bluebonnet field. Also, think about point of view. The angle in which the photo is taken can add to the impact of the outcome. For a dog, look down or get on the grown at eye level. You want the outer parts of the portrait to be the field in which the subject is surrounded in.
