I am often intrigued by the people I briefly meet in everyday life, a brief glimpse at the person’s demeanor and lifestyle. Imaginary possibilities tickle my mind as I wonder what type of life they have led and what they might be like. Unfortunately, taking pictures of strangers is generally not socially acceptable, but I couldn't pass on this opportunity.
Taxi Please captures a glimpse of a quiet Canadian cab driver as he shuttles a passenger across Vancouver Island. The driver’s ethnicity interested me, highlighting the diversity of human life. His aging facial features capture time with the variety of line. My focus was the contrast in texture of his facial hair to turban: one a soft fabric, the other a bristly beard.
By altering the depth of field in my camera's settings, I successfully displayed the backdrop of the car in a blurry manner drawing greater attention to my subject. Applying the rule of thirds, as well as exercising proper subject placement I was able to lead the viewer’s eye through the entirety of the composition.
