Location
The girl in the photo is my niece and I believe it was taken in her house. She stayed in Gourock, looking out over the Clyde Estuary on the West Coast of Scotland.Time
I can't recall what time of day the shot was taken however it's not relevant to this image as the image is a composite of a number of images blended to form the final result.Lighting
The lighting for the shot of the girl would have been a speedlight through a softbox. The other images that make up the composite are in fact brushes.Equipment
The shot of the girl was taken with my Nikon D90. The flash used would have been a Nikon SB-700.Inspiration
I have seen many double exposure type shots and there are many ways to create such an image. I wanted to create one myself and this was the result.Editing
The creation of this shot was mainly in the post processing. I used many layers in photoshop. The image of the girl was desaturated. The background trees, the foreground tree and the birds are all photoshop brushes. I made a white background layer and added the background trees and adjusted the transparency and fill to suit. I added the image of the girl and covered with a layer mask. I then used the foreground tree brush to reveal areas of the girls face paying attention to transparency and fill. Finally I added the birds which again was a brush. In my camera bag
Camera - Nikon D850. Lenses - Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2, Tamron 70 - 200mm f2.8 G2, Samyang 14mm f2.8. Flash - Nikon SB-910 speedlight. Black Rapid strap.ND and circular polarising filters. Spare camera battery and spare AA batteries for the speedlight.Feedback
There are loads of double exposure type shots out there. Know what you would like to achieve and keep trying until you get the result you're after. This type of double exposure shot is mainly done in post so there is nothing to lose.
