Bad photo, included for educational purposes. This is the Merced River just downstream from the main Yosemite Valley. In the background can be seen the U-shaped Yosemite valley, with a waterfall dropping out of a U-shaped hanging valley. Both the U-shape and the hanging valley are typical of glacier-carved terrain. In the mid- and fore-ground, the Merced flows through a V-shaped valley, typical of water-carved terrain.
