Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken on the west coast of Finland at the Gulf of Bothnia.Time
It was late afternoon at 5 em in early march when I went out to my favorite place at the sea and I spotted this ice cave.Lighting
I wanted the sun to shine into the cave so I had to wait a good while to get the sun where I wanted it. The sun rays were reflected on the ice walls so the foreground did not become too darkEquipment
This was shot with a Pentax K-5 with a Sigma 10-20mm lens set at 10mm.Inspiration
I love to photograph in winter and to photograph ice in different shapes and light conditions has become kind of my spiciality. When I saw the ice cave I immediately understood that it could become something extra so I crawed in and lay on my stomache and took several pictures. It was quite cold but I had a sleeping pad with mee so it was not too bad.Editing
It didn't need too much editing, I just lit up the walls a little and added some more sharpness. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I always have my faithful Pentax K-5 and a Sigma 10-20mm lens, a Pentax 28-105mm and a Pentax 100mm Macro lens. Then the equipment varies of course depending on what I am planning to shootFeedback
The winters out by the sea can be very cold and the weather changes quickly so it is important to have warm clothes becouse when you are getting cold you also want to stop photographing, also use anti-slip protection on the shoes and a sleeping pad is also good to have with you if you need to lay down on the ice.
