I needed an image that I could use in a pop art painting class, the face needed to have dimension since it was going to be enlarged and cropped. I was able to catch a great image of my shy rescue "pup" in my back yard.Time
I took this picture around 1pm on a bright April afternoon. I wanted the hard shadows for the pop art project, and my pup seems to be more up for a photo shoot in the early afternoon.Lighting
The most important thing for this project was to get depth, so nothing strait on and shadows a must. The painting turned out great because I had a nice starting point.Equipment

For a paint and sip pop art class, I needed an image of one of my dogs other than my weim who had passed about 6 months prior. I choose this pup, and needed to make sure that I had hard shadows since the majority of his face is the same color.Editing
I did basic post-processing in light-room, mostly just density (exposure) and magenta, cyan and yellow. After 10 years working in 1 hour labs long before digital I try not to do much post-processing. At the time I took this image I didn't know about Luminar so I didn't enjoy the editing part.In my camera bag
I have my Canon which ever model I am using, a wide range lens Sigma 18-250 has been my go to for many years now. I have a great sturdy travel tripod and shutter release cord with an extension (my husband and I often find ourselves without assistance so this is the best way to get a "selfie")Feedback
Shutter priority helps in situations where you aren't sure where an animal might move. Make sure that your ISO is high, in this situation I choose 800 ISO, and a fast shutter speed 1/1600 sec. on this image. I learned this when trying to take pictures of deer running across a field.
