Behind The Lens

Location

We were on a dream vacation to Antarctica. We landed several times and I was fascinated by the penguins. There were rules about how close you could approach the penguins, but the penguins had their own rules.

Time

This was taken mid morning.

Lighting

The weather was overcast, so the lighting was subdued. No harsh shadows to contend with.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 50D, 28-300 lense. No other equipment was used. As always, I wish I had my better camera that I have now, for that trip.

Inspiration

I love candid photos, and this precious moment between these two King Penguins just spoke to my heart. I just had to capture it.

Editing

I use Lightroom to process my raw photos. I cropped a wee bit and did a few tweaks.

In my camera bag

I usually have a choice of lenses. On this occasion I only had my camera and one lense as it was a bit dodgy getting on and off the zodiac as the seas were often on the rough side. Traveling light was the best option.

Feedback

As always be flexible and at the ready to capture the extraordinary. Have your camera settings set to what you believe is needed. As always be aware of what is behind you as often that is the perfect shot. And always, aways shoot in raw.
