Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken during a Fall harvest festival parade in the Gui Zhuo district of China. The participants wore spectacular embroidered costumes but this little girl with the floppy ears on her hat, huddled behind the women was one of the highlights for me.

Time

Mid afternoon on an overcast day.

Lighting

I work with available natural light exclusively

Equipment

Fujifilm X-T2, natural lighting

Inspiration

How this little girl contrasted with the highly decorated participants of the festival. The anxious look on her face, the posture of her hands, the floppy ear on her hat and the pink shoes - just captured a true, lovely moment.

Editing

Lightroom and Luminar

In my camera bag

I do organized photography focused trips for my vacations, typically in very remote locations. The style of photography is basically "street" photography as you don't have any control of the lighting or conditions. So I try to keep my equipment very light and basic and primarily use have my Fujifilm X-T2 with 18-55, 18-135 and 50-200 lenses.

Feedback

Stay alert, look for small moments of focus in the surrounding activity and chaos. The simpler and more direct the message the stronger the emotional impact of the photo.
