Behind The Lens

Location

I love to hike. I was on my hiking routine at a local camping park in my hometown Bandung, Indonesia, when I passed this beautiful waterfall. People were not allowed to get closer to the waterfall because it was dangerous.

Time

I arrived at the location before noon. I was amazed at the view spreads before me. I took my time enjoying the water before I preparing my gear to take the shot. It was around 10.00 or 11.00.

Lighting

The light was not quite to my liking because it was kinda cloudy. But there's enough light to take the photo. I am lucky it went well.

Equipment

I always bring my tripod when I go hiking because there's a lot of unexpected beautiful things out there. To catch the waterfall movement I purposely set up my tripod and my Nikon D3100. The lens I used was an old Nikkor 22mm lens. I got the lens from my father who was a professional photographer. I went through some difficulty using the lens because it doesn't have an autofocus and I am nearsighted.

Inspiration

I took the photo simply because the scenery was so beautiful that I was captivated. I want people to look at the beauty of our earth.

Editing

I did enhance the color a bit as my camera is quite old and it's sensor doesn't do justice to the real scenery. I also cropped some parts I thought wasn't necessary. It's a habit of mine to take photos wider than what I'm intended to so I can make some adjustment. It's better to have more room to crop than having a headache because the photo wasn't wide enough.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon D3100 and attached to it, a 18-55 kit lens. I also always pack a spare battery (it's a must!), a spare memory card, a CPL filter and a lens hood. Sometimes I bring along an old film camera, a Nikon F2 with an old Nikkor 50mm. And as I have stated above, a tripod is quite needed for me.

Feedback

I can't give much advice, but it is needed to always be aware of your surrounding and see the beauty in things. Try to find a different point of view from what others have been using.
