The Dettifoss name could be translated as "The cascade of collapse." Dettifoss is a waterfall located in the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, in the area of Mývatn in northeast Iceland. Located in the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier. It is known to be one of the largest waterfalls in Europe, with a flow rate estimated at between 200 and 500 m3 - s, depending on the season and the summer thaw. The Dettifoss is 100 m wide with a vertical drop of 48 m to Jökulsárgljúfur gorge.
