While traveling through Burma (Myanmar), I was amazed by how otherworldly and old fashioned the country was. Farmers still used water buffalo to plough their fields, there were few cars and one really had a sense of having gone back in time a few centuries. Of course this was partly a product of an oppressive regime that allowed its subjects few economic opportunities. As result, however, the country was so beautiful as one saw little of the ugly industrial development one sees in so many places in the world.
