Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the local Park in the Perth CBD. I took this photo while this bird was preening and drying its wings.

Time

This is my favourite out of the many shots I’ve taken because I like the way its head was positioned and also its eye was looking down.

Lighting

It was mid day and sunny when I took this photo. It was during my lunch break. I took several shots and move at different angle to get a better exposure.

Equipment

This was on Canon Mark lll with the Tamron 70-200mm. If I remember correctly, an external flash was also used to balance the shadows.

Inspiration

I usually spent my lunch break at this Park since it’s walking distance from my work place. I always observed and took photos of the wild life here. It’s pure passion and also to enhance my skills.

Editing

Yes, I edited this photo with iPhoto being the only photo editing software that I’m familiar and more easier for me to use. I made it black and white for a more classic appeal and did some light and shadow adjustment and used a square cropping to minimise any background distractions.

In my camera bag

I prefer travelling light so I only carry very basic equipments. My Canon Mark lll body, a canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens, Tamron 70-200mm f2.8, spare battery and memory cards. My external flash and a dome flash diffuser.

Feedback

Keep practicing and make the most out of the equipment you already have and enjoy what you do. Don’t focus on the equipments you don’t have as they will not make you any better photographer/artist and so the “best” equipments.
