Actually this was taken in my backyard on a March night in Michigan. I had a wedding coming up and wanted to be prepared for outdoor pictures in case it rained. Chances are it probably would rain and I wanted to be prepared to take the couples picture with lights illuminate from behind, but I needed some practice. This cute couple, who were only high school student at the time agreed to model as a bride and groom for me. The mother of the groom brought her actual wedding gown that she wore in her wedding. Even though it was pretend wedding shoot the grooms mom still had tears in her eyes, it was a beautiful night and so much fun. FYI it didn't rain at the real wedding I was preparing for but I did get a gorgeous sunset picture of the real bride and groom.Time
In March Michigan gets dark around 630 p.m. I was lucky that it was 50 degrees outdoors unseasonably warm for that time of year.Lighting
I set up a flash on a stand with a pocket wizard and placed it behind the couple with a plastic garbage bag protecting it. My boyfriend climbed on a 10ft ladder and sprayed water from our garden hose directly behind them. I can only imagine what the neighbors were thinking when the strobes were flashing and a man spraying water on a bride and groom when it"s still considered winter.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800 on a tripod, 50 lens, flash on a stand.Inspiration
I have seen photos like this before and absolutely loved them and was so excited to try it for myself.Editing
I did process this photo a bit and made it black and white. In my camera bag
If I am doing a wedding my SUV is pretty full. Camera, Lenses, Tripods, Stands, Lights, Ladders, etc...pretty much I bring the house with me. If it's just a senior or family shoot I just bring my Nikon D800 24-70 Lens and one light with a soft box.Feedback
Don't be afraid to try new things if it doesn't work out just keep at it. With social media I have found young people are always willing to model which is a great way to practice and possibly get new clients in the future.
