Took this shot last spring. Got up before the sun was up, walked out to the cornfield, climbed on a terrace and waited for the sun. I forgot I had this. I am ready for spring, tired of everything being sad and grey!!!

Beautiful photo, almost like are there. So peaceful and tranquil can almost hear the peace and quiet. Love the clarity of the grass seeds along the terrace top and the clarity of so many features as the suns rays pass over them.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the cornfield behind my house outside of Hinton, Iowa. I am a self taught amateur photographer who uses every opportunity to learn. I just keep shooting until I get it right!

Time

I remember I woke up around 4:30 am, looked out the window and saw it was going to be an awesome sunrise, so I threw some clothes on, grabbed my gear, and started walking towards the cornfield. I walked through the corn, climbed up on the terrace, then walked along the top of it until I got to the point where I wanted the sun to be in the picture! I stood on that terrace shooting almost 2 hours. My dogs were with me and I kept yelling at them because they kept getting in the picture or making the grass move. This was taken early June of 2016.

Lighting

I always know the lighting is going to be amazing when there are clouds, especially for a sunrise. As the sun comes up, it lights the clouds from the bottom and I absolutely love that!

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D3200 and a 18-55mm kit lens. I had a cheap Manfrotto tripod that I used back then. I think when a person is just starting out with this photography passion, hobby, whatever you want to call it, you want to be careful about buying expensive high end photography equipment. I think just a basic camera and lens that can take a decent shot will make you a better photographer. YOU have to be able to see and compose the shot. YOU have to get yourself there and figure out where the position is to take the shot you want. YOU have to be able to figure out the best settings for the best shot! (my camera is always set on manual) Then you have to figure out what to do with it in processing to show people what you saw. Having an super, duper high end camera and lens that will take a good shot no matter what does not teach a person how to really be a good photographer. You better have the knowledge to take that shot with whatever camera is in your hand!

Inspiration

I am a midwest girl through and through. Every photo I take is meant to show how really beautiful the "fly over" states are!

Editing

I shoot in raw and use LR and PS. I try to simply process my photos to show others what I saw and felt while taking the shot!

In my camera bag

I only have one camera, the Nikon D3200, that came with 2 kit lens. The 18-55mm, which USED to be my favorite and the 55-200mm. I also have a 35mm prime lens, but my current favorite is a Tokina 11-20mm, 2.8 wide angle:) I don't think its been off my camera since I got it about 2 months ago!! I also have a 3 stop and 6 stop ND filter as well as a couple of circular polarizers. My tripod is a Vanguard and I have a wireless remote. In the next year I would really like to purchase a Nikon D7500 body.

Feedback

If you want to get that sun flare you have to use F14 or higher!! 16 works great, when you get into 22 or 25 they are so clean they almost look fake!
