I lived and worked in Yellowstone for one year- an amazing gift ! The 4.9 mile trail to Riddle Lake is level and winds through a lodge- pole pine forest, skirts grassy meadows and on to a black sand beach. Many times I was a solo hiker. Ranger tip: wait at the trail head and ask to join a group before you head out...good advice ! This is prime bear habitat !
