The city lights, though far off, illuminate the low clouds and develop a background of silhouetted woodland. I had decided to go out late rather get up early, the weather had predict less cloud cover. So I went far off, down roads without end, or without an end that I've found, and yes, given my luck I ran into a hitch. Mind you, 3 O'Clock in the morning and what comes out of the dark, screaming and roaring unlike anything the natural world could produce. Yes, of course, Saturday night in a mountain town screams bonfire and here comes the caravan. Two dozen trucks loaded with pallets and hollering teenagers doing 40mph on a road one lane wide and riddled with massive potholes. Dads' truck got a beating last night. Then to top it off, because it wasn't exciting enough, someone, somewhere, must have figured it all out and called the fire department. Now I'm left trying to find a decent spot without light pollution amidst headlights flying in all directions and a fire crew roaring up the mountain, lights a going, attempting to assess the situation. I sleeked away quietly, found another of the million logging roads and still managed a few decent shots, but was driven deeper into the unknown and hence out later, much much later then expected. Still happily wondering and glad to see kids being kids in the way I used too.
