This is a shot from the bonfire at Texas A&M - Kingsville (TAMUK). From what I've been told, TAMUK is the last college campus in Texas allowed to hold an on campus bonfire.
As you can see, this is not your typical bonfire. There are not large trees in the valley, so the Aggie Club makes due with pallets donated from local businesses and hauled in by the trailer load by the club members.

In Northern Ireland, the Eleventh Night or 11th Night refers to the night before the Twelfth of July, ( Google July 12th history) a yearly Ulster protestant celebration. On this night, large towering bonfires are lit in many Protestant/loyalist neighbourhoods in NI and accompanied by street parties. The bonfires are mostly made up of wooden pallets, with some reaching over 100 ft tall. The event has been condemned for displays of sectarian or ethnic hatred, anti-social behaviour, and for the the damage and pollution caused b y the fires.The flag of Ireland, Irish nationalist/republican symbols, catholic symbols, and effigies, are burnt on many bonfires. There have been attempts to make the event more family-friendly and environmentally-friendly. It is also known as bonfire night. Crazy times in NI
