Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in an abandoned town east of Rexburg Idaho

Time

I loved this shot because it was a cool evening in the fall, and it was in the middle of nowhere so the stars were shining so brilliantly!

Lighting

I used the headlights of my friends’ Jeep to get the house lit up, and afterwards, realized one of my friends had put a tea-light in the left window, which lit up the inside of that section of the house, making for a super eerie effect

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7000 with a 18-105mm Nikkor lense, on a tripod.

Inspiration

I love taking photographs of the night sky, as well as cool-looking buildings, and this shot is a combination of both

Editing

I just used photo-editing software to brighten the horizon a bit, which helped make the image “pop” more on the horizon, and just made the “light” areas lighter, and the dark areas of the image lighter as well.

In my camera bag

I always have all of my lenses with me when I go shooting, my 18-105 kit lense has given me a majority of my shots, but recently I was gifted a 70-300 mm lense and I also have a portrait 50mm lense as well. Then my Tripod, shutter remote and battery charger are a must.

Feedback

Go find an area near you that has an old run-down town, or abandoned buildings and make sure it’s free of too much light pollution. That’s the worst thing to have for night-shots. And then set up the shot you want to capture, and play around with your settings on your camera to find what you want for this kind of shot. Then get your remote out and get those amazing pictures rolling!
