This epic fire in the sky sunset happened above Henderson Canyon Road in Borrego Springs on March 14, 2017. For quite a while, it seemed like the sunset was nothing special. It was quite boring and many other photographers started leaving. Suddenly - a few minutes past 7:00 PM - the sky exploded in color!

The yellow flowers are Desert Sunflower (geraea canescens), the white are dune even primrose (oenothera deltoides deltoides), and the purple are desert sand verbena (abronia villosa villosa).

I shot this with my Canon 6D and Tokina AT-X 17-35mm at 1-4 sec f-8 ISO 400.
