In late 2015 I travelled along the Silk Road from Shanghai to Istanbul overland. One of my stops in western China was the small town of Xiahe in Gansu province. It's home to Labrang Monastery, a holy site for Tibetan Buddhists. Worshippers walk around the perimeter of the monastery, a route called the 'kora' spinning prayer wheels as they go.
