Nature is so rewarding when we just take a moment to be immersed in it. I was sitting doing some work on my computer when I heard a loud thump. I knew a bird had hit one of my windows, and I was not sure what I would find. The thump was louder than any I had heard before. Upon opening my door I found a Nuthatch laying motionless on the cold cement. I quickly got my gardening gloves and picked him up to warm him and hoped he would recover from the accident. As I held him in my hands I would caress his wings with my thumbs and talk to him. He seemed to like it. I would open my hands every now and again to see if he would fly, but he still remained in my hands. He was so beautiful, and he seemed so much larger than when you see them in the trees not far from where you are watching them. After about 20 minutes I opened my hands and he flew a very shot distance to my low roof, where I snapped a few pictures of him. He chirped a few times during the last few minutes in my hands, and on the roof he couldn't stop chirping, as if saying, "Thank You for helping him out." I went inside but came out twice about 10 minutes apart and he still hadn't left the roof. The third time I checked on him he was gone. I felt blessed to hold just a small part of our living earth in my hands for a few moments in time. I will remember this and hold it in my heart always.
