Well, Ontario saw its first batch of thunder storms yesterday morning, and some even better ones last night. Watching the radar I saw some good lines of cells moving from the US to the north. When I saw one coming directly for my town, I grabbed my bag and went in search of a good location. As I was driving around I noticed the storm that was initially tracking my way was now headed out into Lake Erie. I tried a spot near an observation tower on a trail, but the rocky shore was being pounded by waves making it pretty unsafe to be on the rocks. Also, it was far too wet for my liking. Out of options I made a last ditch effort to get a storm or lightning shot, I went to the beach in Erieau. Right next to the pier I set up as rain started falling. Rain isn't great for taking pictures, especially when it's flying through the air, hitting your lens head on. I used a Mag-Lite flashlight to light the beach, pier and lighthouse. Shooting at 30 second exposure at my usual 400 ISO, the Mag-Lite was too bright, but I wanted to keep the shutter open as long as possible, so I ramped up my ISO to 12800. The f-stop was at f-16 to get the sharpest image possible, so I had no choice to shoot at such an ISO.
