Taken at Bournemouth Airfestival a few years ago. The Vulcan was made famous for taking part in, what was at the time, the world's longest bombing run during the 1982 war between the Falklands and the UK. I heartily recommend anyone interested in this aircraft checking out @vulcantothesky on Twitter of the like. Before these chaps stepped in, there hasn't been a flying Vulcan for decades, and these guys managed to crowdfund enough money to get the old girl in the air again. I can't remember the specifics, but they were initially granted several years of safe flying hours in 2008, but due to the success of their funding campaign the were able to get her flying up until 2015, at which time she was retired. My Dad and I followed her around the UK as we just couldn't get enough. Although the Lancaster bomber is certainly close, the Vulcan has, in my opinion, the best sounding engine in the world of aviation; seriously, check out some videos, there is very little that sends shivers down my spine like the "Vulcan Howl"; a distinctive sound made by Vulcan air-frames due to the arrangement of the air intakes.
